Since overindulgence comes from a good heart and since it has become a New Normal in the culture, it is easy to discount. However, it does exist, and it does present unexpected risks for adult life as well as major discomforts in the families of young children and teens. If it is missed in assessment, it can cause problems as it bumbles along underneath, undermining the effectiveness of professionals working with families.
